About the Artist
Meet Marcie
Marcie Cohen spent her childhood exploring the waters, woods, and wildlife near her suburban home north of Chicago. In 1995, Marcie’s love of nature, the mountains, and outdoor sports brought her to Colorado. Her connection to the natural world and its subtleties emerges fully in her pastel and oil paintings.
Inspiration for her paintings comes from the Colorado landscape and from her travels, oftentimes while hiking, cycling, or enjoying water sports. Marcie enjoys painting outside on location, feeling the nuances and the sense of place that only come from being there. She uses these plein air studies as references for larger studio works.
Art has been an important part of Marcie’s life since she was a young child. Primarily self-taught, she studied at various times with several nationally recognized landscape painters. Marcie’s formal education includes a B.Sc. degree in Accountancy from the University of Illinois and an M.Ed. degree focusing on Mathematics from DePaul University.
An award-winning painter, Marcie was recently honored with First Place in the 2021 Pastel Society of Colorado Small Works Juried Show, Best of Show in the 2019 Mile High International Pastel Exhibition, Best Pastel in the PleinAir Salon Feb/March 2019, and third place landscape category in the 2017 Artist’s Magazine Annual Competition.
Her studio is located in Denver, Colorado.
